EMERGENCY TEST
RIG
This shows what can be improvised using a small flashlight
as the light source. Unfortunately, the
geometry of the flashlight is intrusive.
This means the eye must be placed too far back or too far to the side
for a good test. If a copy of an old
USA service flashlight with a 90 degree head is available at a camping store,
this serves reasonably well. Otherwise,
the smallest flashlight is best. Of
course a prism or white drawing paper uses to deflect the direction of the beam
90 degrees bit the rig then becomes something more than an emergency set-up.
The face of the flashlight may be sanded or a few
pieces of tracing paper used.
No matter how it is achieved, the light source
MUST be well diffused for good results.

This may be used with a slit/grating or
grating/grating. See under Gratings and
Sources for more details.
Blue tac can hold the pieces together in an emergency.
